John Curtis Christian School

Counseling Services

Counseling is an important integral part of the student’s total growth and development. The Head of School, the principal, and the teachers take an active interest in the overall development of each child. In addition, the services of three full time professional counselors are available to assist students, faculty, and parents in making each student’s stay at John Curtis Christian School a happy and healthy experience.

STANDARDIZED TESTING:

Each April, JCCS administers the official ACT test to all juniors on a regular school day. All 8th, 9th, and 10th graders take the preACT test. Kindergarten - 6th grade students take the Stanford 10 Achievement test. Additionally, all 11th grade Honors students take the PSAT each fall.

ACT TEST PREPARATION:

All 10th-12th grade students have access to the ACT Online Prep website. ACT Online Prep offers activities to help students prepare for the ACT including access to practice tests, flashcards, and lessons on the skills tested by the ACT. To access ACT Online Prep, students can go to onlineprep.act.org and login using their school email and school email password. Additionally, all juniors are given an Official ACT Prep workbook to use for individual preparation and in-class assignments.

University Guidance

Each high school student is guided by the counselors in the selection of his/her curriculum. The high school counselor will give direction to the students throughout their high school careers. Our graduates are completely prepared to meet the entrance requirements of the most demanding universities. The purpose of our guidance service is to assist each student, through the high school years, to clarify personal goals.

JCCS College Fair

JCCS hosts its own College Fair for seniors, juniors, and sophomore Honors students each year. Over 30 colleges attend to share information with students. A few of these include LSU, LSUA, Centenary, Holy Cross, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, University of Louisiana at Monroe, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Holy Cross, Tulane, and many more. Students are given the chance to ask the college representatives questions to help them decide which college they want to attend and what each college can offer their students.

Scholarships

Counselors assist juniors and seniors in applications for athletic and academic scholarships as well as privately-funded scholarships which may be available. By knowing each graduate, the counselors may encourage and recommend that particular individuals apply for benefits offered by state and private universities all over the country. This kind of assistance is extremely valuable in the field of higher education.
